Just the Alford Loop and back - 20 mile beginner road route

Bike the Alford Loop and back, a 20-mile beginner road route

Alford is a Berkshire hidden gem, a little village with quiet roads winding through farmland.  The Berkshires are far from flat, so you’re sure to enjoy some rolling hills on this route.  Once you navigate through downtown Great Barrington (bike lanes on Main St.), you will quickly find yourself out on some smooth pavement and low traffic country roads.

Don’t forget to pack food and refreshments! Downtown GB has some great cafes and shops to buy tasty snacks and picnic lunches.  Check out Rubi’s Cafe, Gorham & Norton, or the Berkshire Co-op for food and drink to pack. On route there are plenty of places to stop for a roadside picnic.  On West Road you can stop at the BNRC Alford Springs trailhead parking lot for a pause, or at the end of East Road pull over at the Alford Town Green and pull out the picnic blanket.

This route starts at Berkshire Bike and Board – 29 State Rd Great Barrington, MA 01230. There is plenty of on street parking and a public parking lot behind the fire station. The bike shop is open 7 days a week and has road bikes and ebikes available for rent.
